Q&A

WHO ARE PENTRAIN?

We are a group of paediatric junior doctors working in the Peninsula deanery (Devon and Cornwall) who are interested in research. All paediatric trainees are welcome to join PenTRAIN and we also work closely with all those interested in children's health research.

HOW DO YOU SELECT YOUR PROJECTS?

Our projects are trainee-led and informed by our clinical practice on the frontline. We are always happy to explore new suggestions from children/young people/families and colleagues so if you have a suggestion do get in touch. We vote on new projects at our Annual General Meeting and also participate in national/multi-regional projects with our partner organisations.

WHAT SENIOR SUPERVISION DO YOU HAVE?

We have at least one Consultant paediatrician lead in each hospital trust where we work. Additionally, we have many supportive mentors in paediatrics and academia across the South West. We are supported nationally by the RCPCH as part of their Trainee Research Network.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU DO?

We aim to improve the knowledge and research skills of our fellow paediatric training through study days. We host regular study days (currently online) for paediatric trainees across the South West on topics mapped to the paediatric curriculum. We aim to foster enthusiasm for the research process amongst trainees and build their capacity to participate. As part of this we also signpost members to external courses and events through a regular newsletter.
